The Law of God As A Mirror: The Purpose of The Law of God

The Law of God As A Mirror

Today’s post is titled The Law of God As A Mirror: The Purpose of The Law of God.

It happened many years ago on a beautiful South Pacific island. The queen had never seen herself in a mirror, so she did not know how truly ugly she was. One day a ship brought a large consignment of mirrors to the island, and the natives bought them eagerly. The queen, noticing the brisk trading in mirrors, bought one.

The sad truth was revealed to her – she was indeed ugly. No woman enjoys being ugly, but a queen can do something about it, and this queen did. She was so indignant over the truth the mirror revealed that she decided all mirrors should be confiscated and destroyed.
James describes the law of God as a mirror. “For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh unto the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:23-25.
The law, like a mirror, tells us if our spiritual face is dirty or our lives are sin tainted.
If the spiritual mirror tells you that your face is soiled and needs washing, what will you do to remedy the situation? Try to wash your face with the mirror? Give it away because it reveals a sad fact disagreeable to you? Neither course of action would make your face clean.
In the video below Lonnie Melashenko of the Voice of Prophecy preaches on the topic, Whatever happened to right or wrong. It is about the role of the law of God in the Christian’s life.
