Dr. Barry Black is the 62nd United States’ Senate Chaplain. His rise to the post of Chaplain to the Senators of the most powerful nation on earth is a testament to his belief that God is able to open doors that most people would think are shut. He is not only the first African American to assume this post but is also the first military chaplain to do so in the history of the United States of America.

In the video below Chaplain Black preaches on how his love for the reading of the Bible has guided his life and saved him from so many dangers. He says it was his love for bible study that once prevented him from being involved in the eventual murder of another young man by his childhood friends.
He says that morning he had read the proverb, “my child if sinners entice thee thou shalt not consent”. When his friends invited him to accompany them on a mission to exact revenge on this fateful day, he remembered this proverb and refused to accompany.made him. These friends went ahead and not only exacted revenge but killed this boy and were charged with murder.
Dr. Black calls on us to claim the promises found in the book and make them our own. He encourages us to go to God and tell Him for instance, “Father you promised that by your wounds we are healed, please fulfill your promise in my life”.The same creative power that brought this world into existence when God spoke is found in the word of God. It is available to those who by faith take hold of its promises and make them their own.
There is power in the word of God to revive our souls. When we read the bible daily we grow in our faith and are revived by the power of the Holy Spirit. Let us take the time to read the Word of God.
